ESN Italy is the Italian network of university associations that are part of the Erasmus Student Network International. It’s a Pan-European network established in Copenhagen in 1990 to promote student mobility and to create an information and support service voluntarily provided by students, and directed to students leaving or arriving with a grant within the LLP programmes.
When ESN Italy was created
It was officially founded on 22 October 1994 on the initiative of the members of the oldest Italian sections (Siena, Parma, Pavia, Milan, Trento, Bologna, Genoa) who were interested in creating a coordination and cooperation of activities that would reproduce at national level the organization of the wider international network.
What are its goals
ESN Italy, as an Italian network of voluntary, non-political and non-denominational university associations, offers its services to foreign students visiting Italian universities and to Italian bodies interested in exchange programmes. It is itself a non-profit, non-political, non-denominational association, as it pursues all the objectives expressed in the Statute and the Guidelines of the International Network of which it is a member.
It therefore aims to foster the mobility of university students in Europe:
- by welcoming and advising foreign students who are doing an Erasmus in an Italian university (through a service that ranges from finding accommodation to tutoring and organizing cultural and recreational events that foster the integration of the foreign student into the local university environment);
- providing an up-to-date information service on European inter-university exchange programmes;
- by developing a systematic evaluation of the programmes themselves, through the experience of students who have taken part in them.
ESN Italy has 53 local sections and more than 20,000 members, with a widespread presence throughout Italy.
